Your teeth only make up a small percentage of your body, yet problems with them can affect your ability to eat and your self-esteem. Dr. Michael Morris in Spring, TX, shares some information on a few cosmetic dentistry procedures that can improve the function and appearance of your teeth.
Crowns
Also called caps, these hollow restorations are created in a dental laboratory and designed to fit your mouth perfectly. Because a crown slips over your tooth and covers it completely, it's good choice if you want to correct the shape of a twisted tooth or make a short tooth a little longer. Crowns are also used to hide discolorations and other flaws, repair teeth that have broken and strengthen cracked or fragile teeth. Since crowns must be tough enough to handle vigorous biting and chewing, they're made with materials that very strong, such as porcelain, ceramic, gold and metal alloys.
Bridges
It's hard to feel good about your smile when you have missing teeth. Bridges offer an excellent way to close gaps in your smile. Crowns, an important part of every bridge, anchor one or more artificial teeth suspended between them. Whether you receive a bridge or a crown, you'll need to visit Dr. Morris' Spring office twice. During the first visit, an impression of your mouth will be made and your tooth will be reduced to allow the crown or crown portion of the bridge to fit correctly. Once the crown or bridge is completed by the technicians at a dental laboratory, you'll come back for the second visit and receive your restoration.
Invisalign
Invisalign offers an alternative to traditional orthodontic treatment. Straightening your teeth is simple when you wear clear, removable Invisalign aligners. Swapping the aligners for a new set every two weeks is an essential part of the straightening process. Invisalign aligners are designed to be worn 20 hours per day and are removed when you eat.
Veneers
If a cosmetic dental issue doesn't affect your entire tooth, you may want to consider veneers. The thin pieces of porcelain are applied to the fronts of your teeth with dental cement and hide flaws that can ruin your smile. Veneers are a good choice if you're concerned about discolorations, gaps, chips or cracks. Many people use veneers as a long-lasting whitening option for all of their teeth.
Have you been putting off taking care of a dental problem? There's no need to wait any longer when cosmetic dentistry services can improve your smile. Call Dr. Morris in Spring, TX, at (281) 379-6939 to schedule your appointment.
