Should I Consider Veneers?

Having the perfect smile may seem unattainable for many people. Maybe they think they are too old for braces. Perhaps they do not want to undergo dental surgery or complex procedures. Thankfully, there is a simple and easy solution to this problem which can revitalize your smile in just a few dental appointments. You can cross “Hollywood smile” off your bucket list with dental veneers.Veneers

What are dental veneers?
Veneers are a super-thin shell of tooth-colored material that fits over the front of the tooth. Veneers can be made of two materials:

  • Composite resin: Your dentist molds composite resin veneers directly onto your teeth. Composite resin is a tooth-colored material used in restorative dental work such as bonding and reshaping, and tooth fillings.
  • Porcelain: A dental laboratory creates custom-made porcelain veneers using a mold of the patient’s teeth. Temporary veneers are often placed onto patients’ teeth while the permanent veneers are being created in the lab. Porcelain veneers may also be created using CEREC technology. CEREC allows your dentist to create the veneers right in their office, eliminating the laboratory step altogether.

What can veneers fix?
Dental veneers can cover a myriad of imperfections, including:

  • chipped teeth
  • cracked teeth
  • discolored or yellowed teeth
  • gaps in the teeth
  • overlapped teeth
  • slightly twisted teeth

What is the procedure like?
Your dentist numbs the work area with local anesthetic. Next, they'll prepare the teeth for the bonding process by shaving about half a millimeter of enamel off of the front of the teeth. This ensures that the adhesives bond correctly to the teeth, and also makes room for the width of the veneer. Last, your dentist will fit and bond each veneer to your teeth. A special bonding light directed at the teeth ensures the dental cement hardens and sets, locking your veneers into place. After the veneers are set, your dentist cleans up the area and polishes your new teeth.

It is never the wrong time to transform your teeth into something you can be proud of. For more information on dental veneers in the Houston area, please contact Dr. Michael J. Morris, DDS in Spring, TX. Call (281) 379-6939 to schedule your appointment today!
